On this holiday we show the glorious history and countryside of the North East of England. We experience a full day exploring the unique Hadrians Wall, and visits to historic Bamburgh Castle and to the inspirational Holy Island across the tidal causeway.
Day 1
We depart this morning and travel north through the English countryside to the city of Newcastle upon Tyne and our hotel.
DDay 2
Today after breakfast we join our coach and travel north along the A1 to the town of Alnwick, where we include a visit to its famous Castle & Gardens. The gardens are the inspiration of the current Duchess of Northumberland. We then continue our visit to the nearby Castle made famous as a setting for the television series Blackadder and the films for Harry Potter. After an interesting day we travel back to our hotel for our evening meal.
B, DDay 3
After breakfast this morning we join our coach to explore the historic Hadrian's Wall. We first travel to Chester's Roman fort which has the best preserved Roman Cavalry fort in Britain. Afterwards we continue to the market town of Hexham for some free time exploring its streets, cafes and shops. Finally we re-join our coach and travel back to our hotel for our evening meal.
B, DDay 4
This morning after breakfast we make the scenic journey to Belford, before we begin to cross the tidal causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. There will be time to explore and maybe purchase some lunch before rejoining our coach and travelling back to the mainland. Here we continue our journey to Bamburgh and its castle. The Castle is perched on rocks at the edge of the sea offering stunning views of the village, the coastline and the distant Farne Islands. (As the Holy Island Causeway is tidal today's itinerary is subject to change.)
Day 5
We say farewell to the North East and our hotel and travel back to your joining point with a lunch stop en route.
