Brecon Mountain Railway & Penderyn Whiskey

Brecon Mountain Railway & Penderyn Whiskey

Visit this unique day out travelling along the Brecon Mountain Railway, followed by a tour and tasting at the Penderyn Whiskey Distillery.

On this trip we visit two very different Welsh attractions, first we visit the scenic Brecon Mountain Railway followed by a tour and a tasting at the Penderyn Whiskey Distillery with its award winning Single malt whiskey in Hirwaun.

We depart from Pant Station and embark on a six mile return vintage steam train ride travelling alongside the Taf Fechan Reservoir before climbing to Torpantau high in the Brecon Beacons. Our trip includes a thirty five minute stop at Pontsticill station where there is a lakeside cafe and steam museum.

We continue onto Hirwaun and the Penderyn Distillery which has an award-winning Visitor Centre and during the hour-long tour you will learn about the founding of Penderyn, how their award-winning whisky is made and what makes it so unique. See their mill, their mash tun, their innovative single copper-pot Penderyn stills and their latest addition – a pair of pot stills.

At the end of your tour sample some of our products in our Tasting Bar.

Day Trip Information

There are no toilet facilities on the Brecon Mountain Railway trains, please use the facilities at both Pant & Pontsticill Station.

The Penderyn Distillery cannot allow access to any visitors who have flu-like symptoms or have been in-contact with someone who has within two weeks before our day trip. As the distillery commercially produces whisky it is only for adult consumption so no children are allowed to the tastings and should be under adult supervision. For people with mobility issues and wheelchairs there are stairs in the distilling Hall so a different route will have to be used, and all visitors must wear suitable footwear during their visit.
