For 2024 we visit the eastern side of England with a trip to the county of Essex.
For 2024 we visit the eastern side of England with a trip to the county of Essex, giving an opportunity to discover the unexpected from its rustic riches and enchanted heritage. On this holiday we visit the Jacobean splendour of Audley End House, the award winning Green Island Gardens and have a guided tour of the Essex Smugglers’ Trail.
Day 1
We join our coach and travel through the English countryside to Essex, with a lunch stop on the way, before we arrive at the hotel and our evening meal.
DDay 2
After a leisurely breakfast we travel to the town of Saffron Walden, with its heritage buildings and its Saturday market held since 1141. From here we travel the short journey to Audley End House and Gardens, once one of the largest and most opulent houses in Jacobean England. Here we learn about its past, both above and below stairs, and look at the gardens remodelled by Capability Brown. Afterwards we travel back to our hotel and evening meal.
B, DDay 3
Today we join the coach and meet the guide for a half day tour of the Essex coast and Blackwater Estuary, hearing the tales of smugglers from the area. We make a short stop in the ancient town of Maldon, with its river history and timber framed houses. This afternoon we travel to the Green Island Gardens, twenty acres of private gardens designed by its owner with a huge range of unusual trees and shrubs. After an enjoyable day we join the coach for the journey back to the hotel near Colchester.
B, DDay 4
This morning we depart from the hotel and Essex and travel back to your joining point, with a lunch stop en route.

Hotel Details: Holiday Inn, Eight Ash Green, Colchester
This three star hotel is set in its own grounds about four miles from the centre of Colchester. Its facilities include a restaurant and lounge, and there is an indoor swimming pool and sauna.
The bedrooms are all en suite with shower over the bath, television, hairdryer and tea/coffee maker.
Please note: There is no lift at this hotel, but it does have some ground floor rooms allocated on a first come/first served basis.
