Yorkshire Rail & Sail

We include a delightful canal boat trip, two scenic railways and the city of York.

On this holiday we stay in the beautiful county of Yorkshire with its breathtaking scenery and history. We include a canal trip along the Skipton canal, two scenic railway journeys with one of these traevlling through the Yorkshire Moors and across the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, plus a visit to the city of York and its railway museum.

Day 1

We depart this morning and travel through the english countryside with a lunch stop enroute before arriving at our hotel in Ilkley. After settling in we have our evening meal.


Day 2

After breakfast we join our coach and travel first to Embsay where we enjoy a return steam train journey to Bolton Abbey, afterwards we continue onto the town of Skipton for a lunch break.Afterwards we meet our canal boat and crew and enjoy a one hour canal cruise with tea/coffee, biscuits and an enjoyable commentary.

Day 3

After breakfast we meet our guide for our excursion through the Yorkshire Dales National Park arriving at the pleasant market town of Appleby. Here we board the train travelling across the famous Settle & Carlisle railway for the journey to Settle. We meet our coach again at Settle and travel back to our hotel.

Day 4

This morning we travel to York and visit the National Railway Museum where you will be give some time to explore its exhibits. Afterwards make your own way to the city centre with some more free time before rejoining our coach back to our hotel.

After breakfast we say farewell to our hotel and travel back to your joining points.

Hotel Details: The Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley

This three star hotel is set in six acres of landscaped grounds and is a walk from the town centre of Ilkley.

This Victorian hotel has a bar and restaurant with french windows opening onto a garden terrace.

The bedrooms are all ensuite in traditional style and are ensuite with a hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities.

The hotel has a lift but does not serve all rooms.
