We are revisiting an area of Scotland which offers dramatic scenery in a truly fascinating area of Scotland.

This tour for 2019 explores the beauty and history of the Shetland & Orkney Islands.

From the dramatic rugged coastlines and fascinating wildlife to the ancient history and the unique blend of Scottish and Scandinavian cultures, this is truly fascinating area of Scottish history.

With our guided tour of the Orkney Isles we visit Scapa Flow followed by the Italian Chapel and the Ring of Brodgar.

On the Shetland Isles with our guide we visit the Jalshof Prehistoric Norse settlement and we visit the Scalloway Castle & Museum.


Our journeys between the mainland of Scotland and the isles of Shetland and Orkney are by ferry operated by Northlink Ferries.


Day 1

We make an early start from your joining points and travel north along the motorway network crossing the Scottish border to our overnight stop hotel in Pitlochry.


Day 2

After breakfast we leave our hotel and continue our journey through spectacular scenery with a lunch stop enroute before we arrive at our hotel in Thurso, Britain’s most northerly mainland town and enjoy our evening meal.

Day 3

Today we enjoy an early breakfast before joining our ferry to the magical Orkney Islands. On arrival we meet our guide and continue by visiting the world heritage sites of Skapa Flow and the Churchill Barriers, followed by the Italian Chapel and Skara Brae. Our tour continues to Skail House stepped in 5000 years of history, followed by the mystical Ring of Brodgar. We continue to the capital Kirkwall where dinner is provided in a local restaurant before we board our overnight ferry to the Shetland Islands.

Day 4

This morning we arrive in the Shetland Isles and Lerwick. We meet our local guide and first travel south to the Jalshof prehistoric Norse settlement with over 4000 years of history. We continue to Lerwick where you can purchase lunch and in the afternoon we visit Scalloway Castle & Museum. Later that evening we board our overnight ferry where dinner is served as we travel back to Aberdeen on the mainland.

Day 5

After breakfast on board the ferry we arrive early into Aberdeen. We continue from there and travel on to our overnight hotel in Stirling and our evening meal.

This morning after breakfast we continue our journey south arriving back to your joining point arriving back mid evening.

Accommodation Details:

First Night - The Fishers Hotel, Pitlochry.

This centrally located friendly hotel in Pitlochry offers a warm welcome.

All the bedrooms are ensuite with television, hairdryers and tea/coffee making facilites.

Second Night - The Royal Hotel, Thurso.

This hotel is located in the centre of Thurso and offers a traditional Scottish stay.

Third & Fourth nights - We stay on board in cabins on board the Northlink ferry operating between the Orkney Islands & the Shetland Islands, and then in cabins also on the Northlink ferry between the Shetland Islands and Aberdeen.

Fifth night - The King Robert Hotel, Stirling.

This hotel is located on the outskirts of this town.
