Codebreakers & Afternoon Tea

This holiday visits the home of the famous World War Two codebreakers and we enjoy the British tradition of Afternoon Tea in an historic family home.

On this holiday we visit the home that has been home to the Earl & Dukes of Bedford for nearly 400 years, the famous Woburn Abbey.

At Woburn Abbey there are 28 acres of award winning gardens plus inside the house there are over 250 works of art across twenty rooms. In the afternoon during our visit we enjoy an afternoon tea.

We also visit Bletchley Park the home of the World war two codebreakers, here you visit the codebreakers huts and blocks which housed the workers whose work saved so many lives and shortened the war by two years.

Another visit also sees us visit the Shuttleworth collection which was created in 1940 and is home to a collection of vintage aircraft and vehicles along side its popular Swiss garden.




Day 1

Today we leave from your joining point and travel across the country with a lunch stop en route before we arrive in Bedford and our hotel with time to settle in before our evening meal.


Day 2

This morning after breakfast we travel to Woburn Abbey the home to the Earl and Dukes of Bedford, Woburn Abbey. There are 28 acres of award winning gardens, plus inside the house there are over 250 works of art in twenty rooms. In the afternoon we enjoy an afternoon tea popularised by the Duchess Anna Maria.

Day 3

After breakfast this morning we travel to Bletchley and its secret establishment of Bletchley Park. This is home to the World War Two code breakers and is now a unique heritage site with its codebreaking huts and blocks where their success helped saved countless lives and shortened the war by about two years.
Please Note: Entrance is not included to the National Museum of Computing which houses the Colossus Rebuild, to visit an additional fee is paid on the day.

Day 4

After breakfast the time is free to explore the town of Bedford which is home to the renowned author/preacher John Bunyan, plus the Higgins Museum which houses a fine collection of watercolours. In the afternoon we travel to the Shuttleworth Collection which was created in 1940 and his home to a collection of vintage aircraft, vehicles plus its popular Swiss Garden. Afterward our visit we return to our hotel in Bedford.

We leave after breakfast and make our journey back arriving at your joining point late afternoon.

Hotel Details:  The Swan Hotel, Bedford.

This 18th century four star hotel offers views over the River Ouse located in the centre of Bedford.

Its restaurant enjoys embankment and river views.

The hotels' bedrooms are ensuite (They do not have any walk in showers) and are served by a lift but due to the nature of the building some steps must be accessed between the bedrooms and the lift on each floor.
