Brecon Mountain Railway & Penderyn Whiskey
Visit this unique day out travelling along the Brecon Mountain Railway, followed by a tour and tasting at the Penderyn Whiskey Distillery.
On this trip we visit two very different Welsh attractions, the first we visit is the scenic Brecon Mountain Railway followed by a tour and a tasting at the Penderyn Whiskey Distillery with its award winning Single malt whiskey in Hirwaun.
The Brecon Mountain railway was conceived over 40 years ago and is part of the abandoned Brecon & Merthyr Railway which closed in 1964. The railway fought its way through the Brecon Beacons up steep gradients to the summit at Torpantau 1313ft above sea level.
We enjoy a return train journey through the scenic countryside and afterwards at Pant station they have a gift shop, a workshop and a tearoom where you can purchase some light refreshments.
We continue onto Hirwaun and the Penderyn Distillery which has an award-winning Visitor Centre and during the hour-long tour you will learn about the founding of Penderyn, how their award-winning whisky is made and what makes it so unique. See their mill, their mash tun, their innovative single copper-pot Penderyn stills and their latest addition – a pair of pot stills.
At the end of your tour sample some of our products in our Tasting Bar.
Morning
We join our coach this morning and travel to the Brecon Mountain Railway at Pontiscill.
After our scenic journey we join our coach and travel to the Penderyn Whiskey Distillery where we enjoy a tour and a tasting.
Afternoon
We depart after our visit and continue our journey back to your joining point.
